Senior Hydrogeologist

 

Eric Seeger is a licensed professional hydrogeologist who since 2010 has managed and conducted groundwater projects and field operations for Thornhill Group Inc. and now serves in the same capacity for Legacy Groundwater LLC.  These groundwater projects across the states of Texas and Oklahoma include:  groundwater availability assessments of fresh and brackish water, hydrogeologic assessments and impacts studies for groundwater conservation district permitting,  hydrogeological mapping of water characteristics and movement, evaluation of groundwater-surface water interactions, assisting project engineers with well design and specifications as well as well field design and development, geophysical log evaluations for lithology characteristics and salinity of water-bearing zones, analytical groundwater modeling, evaluating current wells for efficiency and possible rehabilitation methods, conducting field operations involving well drilling, aquifer testing, water-quality sampling, geologic mapping, data transfer and management, project coordination with clients and contractors, and managing field programs.

Aquifer and Water Availability Assessments

  • Performed numerous groundwater availability and impact assessments of the Carrizo-Wilcox Aquifer across multiple Texas counties to support water supply development along the Central Texas IH-35 corridor.

  • Conducted hydrogeologic investigations of the Gulf Coast Aquifer systems to determine the availability of groundwater for multiple public water supply providers in Montgomery County.

  • Conducted numerous availability assessments and groundwater impact studies in the Queen City Aquifer throughout Texas.

  • Conducted hydrogeologic investigations to determine the availability of groundwater beneath the Gulf Coast Aquifer in southeast Texas, namely in the Catahoula Sandstone.

  • Conducted hydrogeologic study in Pecos Valley Aquifer in Winkler County for oil field supply water.

  • Monitor and analyze water level trend data in Edwards-Trinity Aquifer in Pecos County.

  • Conducted research in the Ogallala and Capitan Reef Aquifer in Eastern New Mexico.

 Well and Well Field Evaluations and Design

  • Oversaw planning, field operations and data workup for extensive well and well field rehabilitation project in the Middle Trinity Aquifer in the Bexar Comal County area.

  • Assessed groundwater resources, wells and well field across 53,650 acres of Hartley and Dallam Counties with 748 wells capable of producing 64,000 acre-feet/year.

  • Planning field testing and analysis investigations with respect to existing or potential wells and well fields in several aquifers including the Catahoula Sandstone with wells ranging from 50 to 3,000 feet deep and well capacities up to 3,500 gallons per minute.

  • Evaluations and planning with respect to potential water production rates and spacing requirements per rules and regulations set forth by specific entities.

  • Performing and supervising aquifer testing and data analysis.

  • Assisting project engineers in public water well design, specification preparation and inspection of drilling, construction, completion and testing procedures across Texas and Oklahoma.

 Hydrogeologic Investigations for Mine Sites

  •  Exploration, dewatering/depressurization, probable hydrologic consequences and mitigation services for lignite mine in Texas.

  • Review input and outflow data for quarries in Oklahoma and Texas.

  • Planning, implementation, operations oversight and monitoring of dewatering/depressurization systems associated with lignite mining operations.

  • Assisted mine personnel in designing and conducting monitoring programs.

  • Prepared monitoring and data collection systems for operations and State submittals in Texas and Oklahoma.

Geographic Information Systems

  • Developed detailed mapping and spatial analysis routines integrating ArcGIS® and Surfer®.

  • Assisted in developing extensive project geodatabases using ArcGIS®, Microsoft Access and Microsoft Excel.

  • Development of custom project-database visualization tools using ArcGIS®.

  • Conducted simulations with TWDB-approved groundwater availability models (GAMs) to assess potential impacts due to pumping, assess long-term groundwater availability, estimate subsidence, and to assess various desired future conditions (DFCs) and modeled available groundwater (MAG) determinations.

  • Created two-dimensional spreadsheet models for analysis of local groundwater-level fluctuations using the finite difference equations based on Darcy’s Law.

Geologic Assessments

  • Conducted numerous geophysical log interpretations for development of subsurface structural interpretations and apparent water quality characteristics of depths greater than 3,000 feet.

  • Conducted surface and subsurface assessments of soils and geology.

  • Conducted surface geologic mapping, identifying lineament features, and unit descriptions.

Well Completion and Testing

  • Supervised various types of drilling programs involving different drilling methods (i.e., direct mud-rotary and reverse mud-rotary) for wells drilled and completed within the various aquifers across Texas and Oklahoma, ranging in depths from less than 500 feet to greater than to 3,000 feet below ground level. 

  • Development of and inspection of drilling programs, including inspection of methods and materials to verify contractor compliance with specifications and performance standards.

  • Oversight and management of aquifer testing programs utilizing single or multiple monitoring wells, as well as supervising and conducting numerous pumping tests to verify overall well efficiency and capacity.

Field Investigations

  • Conducted numerous electrical resistivity tomography surveys to identify subsurface features.

  • Conducted and managed field programs for collecting geologic and hydrogeologic information, such as: lithology, water levels, water quality, and water temperature.

  • Conducted and supervised field operations involving well inventory, well drilling, aquifer testing, water quality sampling, and geologic mapping in both Texas and Oklahoma.

Groundwater Quality and Contamination Assessments

  • Water quality sampling and interpretation of laboratory analyses using graphical and statistical methods.

  • Water quality sampling and investigation to determine source identification of spring water and pit inflows.

Research, Permitting, and Other Submittals to State/Local Agencies

  • Assisted project engineers in obtaining approval for construction and usage of water wells for public water systems – Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (Water Utilities Division).

  • Prepared permit application submittals, hydrogeologic report, and other documentation for Conservation Districts across Texas.
